Adult Acne: Blasting Zits Into Oblivion

My name is Jamie Turner and when I turned 22, I started to form a horrible case of acne. I used every cleanser and lotion I could find and I even asked my physician for a topical steroid cream to clear up the zits on my face. After six months of treatment, my physician completed a blood test that concluded that a hormone imbalance was causing my acne. I started on therapy to control the amount of estrogen my body produced. The therapy along with a good diet and exercise regimen helped to clear up my acne. I am sharing my story, because acne is not just a condition that affects teenagers. It can affect adults at any age, and it can cause a great deal of embarrassment. Don't let your acne go untreated. Read my blog instead and learn about both natural and medical treatments that can help you.

Common Terms Used In Reiki Healing

Health & Medical Blog

Reiki is a versatile form of energy healing. People have used it to ease anxiety and depression, support their healing from cancer, and address a wide range of chronic illnesses. Since reiki is quite different from most therapies you may have had in the past, you may not be sure what to expect the first time you start a session. Understanding the following terms can give you a better idea of what's going on.

Precepts

Reiki operates under five precepts. You may hear your practitioner mention these, or you may see them listed on a poster on the wall. These precepts are:

  • Don't anger
  • Don't worry
  • Be humble
  • Be honest
  • Show compassion

There are some variations to these precepts. For example, some practitioners may say "set anger aside" instead of "don't anger." But the underlying message is the same: adhere to these precepts, and you'll be open to the healing that can occur with reiki.

Gassho

Gassho is when you and your practitioner each place your palms together in front of your chest. You'll generally do this before the session as a way of acknowledging each other and signaling your partnership.

Hara

Hara is a term that reiki practitioners sometimes use to refer to your abdominal region, or core. The hara is considered to be the energetic center of your body.

Ki

Ki is just a more traditional term for the energy that is exchanged between you and the practitioner during a reiki session. Manipulating the ki can help you heal from whatever is ailing you. If you've heard the term "qi" used in acupuncture or Chinese medicine, the term "ki" has essentially the same meaning.

Mantras

A mantra is a phrase that you repeat, again and again, in order to focus your mind on a certain task or thought. Some reiki healers give you a mantra at the beginning of the session. They may repeat it out loud for you a few times, or they may tell you simply to meditate on it while they work with you.

Nade-Te

Nade-te refers to the hand motions that a healer uses to sweep the energy through the body. These motions may go in any direction, depending on the goals of the healer.

Understanding these terms will allow you to interact more productively with your reiki healer and better understand what they are doing during your sessions. If they use any other terms you're not familiar with, don't be afraid to ask them to define those terms.
