Most independent living communities are apartment complexes that are similar to traditional varieties. However, they offer services and activities that are directly geared towards seniors instead of families and younger people. And, the facilities only allow residents over a certain age to submit applications for an apartment. These apartments are typically priced comparatively to other apartments in the area.
Assisted living facilities are not priced like apartments in your region. They are usually quite a bit more money and they may be several times that of your typical apartment complex. The price reflects the need for support and some amenities. However, it often does not include the actual services provided. They are typically added and are charged to you when they are utilized.
If you do use an extra service, like a home health one, then your insurance may be charged for this. Some facilities do work with Medicare so you will not need to pay for everything out of pocket. If you have insurance coverage and want to use it for needed services, make sure to ask the facility if they accept your coverage.
